Changing Seasons

What a difference a few days can make. Not too many days ago we awoke to -35 C and within a week we were at the freezing point and above. Now the days vary above and below freezing. The ski trails are still usable but the ice rink has become very rough because of mild temperatures, with snow accumulating on top. The ice fishing shack will have to come in soon before the lake ice gets too sloppy. Winter will hang on for a bit yet and we could get more snow yet...who knows? We see more evidence of wildlife activity as the days get warmer. All critters great and small are making their presence known.

This past Thursday was the "food show" that was put on by our kitchen supplier, Northern Meats in Winnipeg. We both got away the night before to stay in the city and then attended the show all the next day. There were amazing displays of various food and related products with many samples to be had. Almost like an all you could eat buffet. Sonya was responsible for choosing the items to order.

This weekend group is the last one for a few weeks (YEAH!)..as we get the break between the seasons. The grounds are too sloppy for outdoor education or recreation. When we start up again, we will host three groups per week (Mon to Wed, Wed to Fri and Fri to Sun)so days off will be few and far between. Soon the time will be spent getting the ice rink and ski trail signs taken down and put away and the Spring and Summer things out. Seems like they were just put away.

The cabin reno project progresses well. Electrical inspections are happening this Wednesday and the plumbing rough-in is 90% complete. Water heaters and lift pumps are in place and the cabins have been stripped of siding and have been covered in house wrap. The cabins all have been roofed and the soffit and fascia have been started. The interior framing is almost complete and we will be ready for insulation at the end of this coming week. The drywall and insulation sits in a very large pile in the parking lot under tarps waiting to be hauled to the cabins. We hope it stays cold for a while yet so we can still use the snowmobile to move materials. The new siding has been sawn for us and sits in the sports field waiting for it's time. Needless to say, we are not going to run out of work for awhile. May 1 is the date that they have to be operational and time will fly.

Kitchen life continues to be interesting as our young head cook resigned this week and will finish the end of the month. So Sonya will be in majoring training mode as she will have to lead a new head cook and assistant cook come May 1st, and have things prepared for the insanity of summer camp. We are praying that God will send someone who will compliment the staff dynamic here.

Can't believe next weekend is already Easter! There will be no surprise visits to Ontario for us but we are anticipating seeing some family here in Manitoba!! Only 4 more sleeps!!

Now if only you all could hop onto a plane and fly out to Beautiful BC & visit ME for Easter! My new roomie & I are talking about doing a road-trip during the long-weekend, but we haven't decided where yet. I do know on Sunday night, I'll be at a jazz club I discovered last week. A night of live jazz for the cost of a coffee! (Okay, maybe it'll also involve chocolate cheesecake!)

Love you all! Have a great Easter!
